who we are
Here when you need us most
Since 2004, Sexual Assault Services of Northwest Mexico has been helping residents in San Juan, Rio Arriba, and McKinley Counties overcome sexual assault and abuse.
We provide Sexual Assault Nurse Exams (SANE – medical/forensic exams), rape crisis advocacy, and therapy services. Our staff also works in the community to prevent sexual assault through one-time and multi-session, education-based programs.
SAS will be with you throughout every step of your recovery process, from a SANE exam to therapy, and advocacy support through the criminal justice system. If you have been a victim of sexual assault, or you want to learn more about how you can assist us with our cause, contact us to speak to one of our staff members.

Our Vision
Making a way
Our vision is to make a way for ALL communities to live free of sexual violence and its effects.
Advocacy
Rape crisis advocates provide compassionate support during the SANE exam, offering crisis intervention, education, and guidance. They connect survivors with resources and referrals, assist with emergency funds when available, and provide accompaniment and support through both criminal and civil court processes.
Counseling
Therapy plays an essential role in the healing journey for survivors of sexual assault and abuse. Our trained therapists provide compassionate, trauma-informed support and are available to work with survivors at any stage of life, regardless of when the assault or abuse occurred.
Outreach
Our outreach programs empower youth and families with the knowledge to prevent abuse before it starts. Through Safe Dates and Care for Kids, we teach healthy relationships, boundaries, and safety skills to students, parents, and young children in supportive, age-appropriate learning environments.
Education & Prevention
Sexual Assault Services of New Mexico strives to educate the community on prevention and awareness of sexual violence. Our programs include topics such as: Child Sexual Abuse Awareness and Prevention, Healthy Sexuality in Children, Sexual Assault 101, Mandatory Reporting, Healthy Relationships, Teen Dating Violence, LGBTQ Education and Understanding
